ANTONIO CANALES

Descendant of a family of artists, Antonio Canales began his career as a dancer at the National Ballet, in which, after several years, he will become a soloist. After leaving the National Ballet, he moved to Paris to be part of the Maguy Marín ballet. Being a member of this ballet, he is invited to create the choreography for the Versalia Festival, in Italy.

Already an internationally famous dancer, he participates in more than fifty creations as principal dancer and performs innumerable international galas. After receiving numerous awards between the late eighties and early nineties, in 1992 he created his own company, debuting in Bilbao with the choreographies A ti Carmen Amaya and Siempre Flamenco.

In 1993 he premiered Torero, making a successful tour across Canada. In 1994 he premiered it in Spain with notable success. In Spain it would exceed 700 performances, with his representation for TVE nominated for the Emmy Awards in 1995. In 1995 Antonio Canales was recognized with the National Dance Award.

After Torero, Antonio Canales premiered Gitano, another of his most successful creations, with Canales being the European representative at the 1997 International Dance Festival.
