Tatyana Vasilievna Novikova

Is a Soviet and Russian opera singer (soprano).

Honored Artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1985).

In 1973 she graduated with honors from the Leningrad State Conservatory. N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (vocal faculty, class of E. G. Olkhovsky) and was admitted to the Leningrad Academic Maly Opera Theater.

In 1975 she won the 2nd prize at the All-Union Competition of Vocalists. M. I. Glinka in Tbilisi, in 1977 she became a laureate of the International Vocal Competition. E. Vila Lobosa in Rio de Janeiro (3rd prize).

Since 1980 she has been a soloist of the Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theatre. Kirov (now the Mariinsky Theatre).

In 1982 she performed the part of Tatiana in the legendary production of Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin (Kirov Theatre, conductor and stage director Yuri Temirkanov). For this performance, as part of the directors, she was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.

On the stage of the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre, the leading parts of the repertoire were performed: Liza (The Queen of Spades by P. I. Tchaikovsky), Iolanthe (Iolanthe by P. I. Tchaikovsky), Martha (The Tsar’s Bride by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov) ), Natasha Rostova (“War and Peace” by S. S. Prokofiev), Norina (“Don Pasquale” by G. Donizetti), Countess Rosina (“The Marriage of Figaro” by W. A. ??Mozart), Olga (“The Maid of Pskov” by N. A Rimsky-Korsakov), Margarita (“Faust” by Ch. Gounod), Gilda (“Rigoletto” by G. Verdi), Violetta (“La Traviata” by G. Verdi), Elsa (“Lohengrin” by R. Wagner), Louise (“Betrothal in a monastery” by S. S. Prokofiev) and others. In 1980 she became the first performer of the part of Gerda in Sergei Banevich’s opera The Story of Kai and Gerda based on Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen.

She has toured with the theater troupe to Italy, Germany (Hamburg Opera), Scotland (Edinburgh Festival), Israel, USA (Metropolitan Opera), Austria, Holland, Portugal, Japan. She has performed at opera houses in Amsterdam, Mexico City and Paris.

The first performer of a number of works by S. M. Slonimsky, V. A. Gavrilin, G. I. Banshchikov, V. A. Uspensky and other contemporary composers. In 1976 she sang (with Lyudmila Filatova) the premiere of a two-part edition of Valery Gavrilin’s vocal cycle “Evening”. In 1984, she held the premiere of the concert aria “Isolde’s Lament” by composer Viktor Kopytko in the Small Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic.

Since 1985 he has been teaching at the Leningrad Conservatory. Currently, he is a professor at the Department of Solo Singing at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. Among the students are soloists of the Mariinsky Theater Alexander Timchenko, Lyudmila Dudinova and others.
